Los Banos PAL Volunteer Background Check Policy
As part of our commitment to ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants, the Los Banos Police Activities League requires a thorough review of criminal history records for every individual serving as a coach, manager, equipment handler, or any other volunteer who may have any level of contact or interaction with our youth players.
This requirement also applies to all current and prospective members of the PAL Board of Directors, who must undergo the same criminal record review process.
The Los Banos PAL will not approve volunteer status for any person who has a conviction, or who is currently out on bail or released on their own recognizance awaiting trial, for offenses involving:
- Any sex-related crimes
- Drug-related offenses
- Crimes involving violence
Additionally, volunteer approval will be denied to anyone who refuses to authorize or participate in the required criminal background check.
This policy allows no exceptions and is strictly enforced to protect our youth and maintain the integrity of our programs.
How to Join the Team
1
All volunteers MUST have an ID badge to be allowed to interact with PAL participants. This includes participating within the dugouts, coaching during games, working in the snack bar, and helping with practice or with teams in any capacity.
2
IF you have never had a pal badge:
- Complete your volunteer registration and enroll into the current season activity in which you wish to participate.
- All adults 18 and over MUST be live scan fingerprinted for Los Banos PAL at the Los Banos Police Department.
- Call 209-827-2599 to schedule your PAL Live Scan appointment, free of charge!
- Volunteers under 18 years old MUST also have a PAL ID badge, however they are not required to be live scanned.
- Due to confidentiality reasons, being live scanned for the school district, parks & recreation, or any other organization does not fulfill this requirement. You MUST be live scanned for Los Banos PAL.
- If you think you have been live scanned for Los Banos PAL but are not sure, call the PAL office at 209-827-0603 or email miriam.rivas@losbanos.org and we will check our files.
- You DO NOT need to get fingerprinted every year.
- Fingerprint results: There is no timeline for PAL to receive your fingerprint results. Some are complete within a matter of hours, and others can take a month.

if you've had a pal badge within the last 2 years and need the current year's badge:
- All you need is to complete your volunteer registration and enroll into the current season activity in which you wish to participate.
- When your badge is ready, you will be contacted for it to be picked up.
- Allowing anyone other than yourself the use of your badge is not permitted. Findings of such abuse will result in termination of your volunteer privileges.
